What is Geomancy?

Geomancy is a divination system that produces answers to questions through a binary system of lines — and dots • which produce 16 figures in total that are delineated in a tableau. In the Islamicate World, this practice is known as Ilm Al Raml, or the Science of the Sands. It is said to be the sister science to astrology and often have a lot of overlap between each other.

The knowledge of Geomancy originally stems from Jibra’il (alayhi as-Salaam) who revealed it to the Prophet Idris (alayhi as-Salaam), and its historical origins come from Africa. As a divination system, it is more closely linked to the Ifa, Hakata, and Sikidy divination systems found across the African Continent.

The Geomancer first starts by purifying themselves before sitting down and consulting with the divination. They will then recite prayers and verses before the casting of the tableau which is used to diagnose the querent’s situation, then predict its outcome, and finally prescribe natural and magical remedies to deal with it moving forward.

What Kinds of Questions can Geomancy Answer?
