Saturn: Growth is Sacred

A lot of people tend to fear Saturn, which is very ironic, as Saturn is the planet that represents fear. But what is fear? Fear can create two things. Action or inhibition. It’s the fight or flight response. Mars and Saturn represent both of these principles. We are able to fight with Mars, and potentially dominate the threat that is posed towards up. However, with Saturn, we encounter a different emotion. Flight and fear. The Saturnian Principle is able to recognize when something is greater and stronger than it, and can then harm. Saturn is able to recognize power structures and the hierarchy of life and how there are potentially greater forces that can harm the individual and put them in a position of danger, risking them to lose their life. And this fear is okay.

Fear is okay.

Fear prevents us from getting into danger that can damage the central structure of our being. If someone decides they are going to jump off a cliff, they will quickly realize that jumping off of high places is something to be feared, as it can directly harm you. The point of fear is to inhibit for the individual’s safety, but an excessive amount of fear can turn into sheltering and this can also be harmful as one may not do anything and enter a state of paralysis. A lack of fear can lead to a lack of discernment, and can then lead to not providing yourself with enough defense to be able to block out things that could possibly endanger your existence.

Fear is a defense mechanism and is not inherently bad.

As a defense mechanism, Saturn has the ultimate understanding of what defense looks like. Saturn’s ultimate defense is its beautiful rings. These rings protect Saturn from any space debris and danger.

These rings are magnificent though, and as Saturn continues to form more, they are a testament to the planet's age. As Saturn acquires more rings, it is a physical indicator of its age and what it has had to withstand to have the defense it currently has. Another Saturnian object that uses rings as a testament to its time and how long it's been building structure are trees. The rings of a tree show how long a tree has lived, and each ring shows the expansion of structure from the center to create a stronger foundation and defense.

Take a look at the different layers of rock that lie beneath the top layer. You will find fossils and old rock in the lower layers from thousands of years ago, and they serve as a testament to the amount of Earth that has piled on top of its core. Every core is vulnerable, and in order to aid in the process of growth and creation, it takes time for something to ripen to full maturity so its structure is strong. Saturn is the planet of time. Maturity, strength, and fortitude take time to develop, just as layers of rock take thousands of years to pile up on top of each other, or the hundreds of years it takes for a seed to germinate and blossom into a tall oak tree. Time and patience are both needed to aid in fortitude. Thus, restrictions, limitations, and boundaries that protect the core of a tree, or the core of an individual, are necessary to preserve the beauty and vitality of a person. Inhibition is an act of self-care. Setting boundaries are an act of self-care. Restricting yourself is an act of self-care, and it prevents the destruction of external forces to be able to taint and spoil what takes time and patience to grow. It requires consistency and discipline. Saturn as a planet can be an agent we work with to practice discipline so that way youth, vitality, and energy may be preserved and have longevity, rather than being expended in the present moment. Ego is what spoils vitality, as it expends energy rather than preserves it. Boundaries act as agents to help us preserve what is sacred to us, and allow the purity of culture, religion, our emotions, feelings, food, etc. through time and space.

The nature of the world is of birth and death, and the liminal space between these two is: Life.

By keeping something hidden and protected, its value increases and allows it to remain to be at its original state. It is important to protect yourself from harm, and Saturn can help you do just that, but you must be willing to give into restriction and inhibition. It is okay to fear what is outside of your control, and what forces are greater than you, but as I've mentioned earlier, an excess of fear can lead to paralysis, whereas a lack of it can lead to a lack of discernment.

Saturn is your friend.
Fear is your friend.
Boundaries are an act of self-preservation.
Restriction is an act of self-care.
