Mars Opposes Saturn

July is not the month to be fucked with. Quite frankly. Both malefics come head to head with each other in a tight opposition of Leo and Aquarius, so if you have planets at 12º of Leo/Aquarius, buckle up because shit is about to get bumpy.

The Lesser Malefic doesn’t oppose the Greater Malefic that often, and it actually does so once roughly every 2 years, which means that each Mars/Saturn opposition will only happen once for the duration that Saturn is transiting through a zodiac sign (Saturn takes 2 1/2 years to transit through a zodiac sign), giving us a pivotal and key moment in the Saturn Aquarius story that will play out until the next Mars/Saturn aspect, which will take place on Nov 10th, 2021 at 6:13 PM ET. So what do the Mars/Saturn aspects mean? In the ancient world, they’re regarded as challenging and feared aspects, because both malefics in aspect to each other talks about two poles of extremes (hot, Mars; cold, Saturn) clash with each other to make thunder. Thats immediately the image that comes to mind with this transit, Thunder. In the very cold sky, where there is a lot of static electricity in thunder clouds, the intense amount of heat pushing the air around it away, as the lighting strikes down is that thunder sound. The Boom we will hear as a result of these two gods fighting may be coming from a completely unexpected and random place, since Uranus is actually involved in this opposition turning it into a Fixed T-Square.

Mars Saturn to me is the need for independence being met with the rejection and the binding, fixed, nature of Aquarius and Saturn, particularly with visibility. Mars in Leo is screaming to want to be recognized, to be seen, and to be acknowledged, and Mars being a planet representing how things get put into effect, having Mars in Leo is making the change you want to see in your life by your own efforts, choices, and volition. However, in order to make room for you to be able to be seen, the stale air needs to be cleared. That’s what I think Saturn in Aquarius is: who is your audience? Who is seeing you and beholding you, and do you want them to have access to you? Especially since this Saturn has recently stationed Retrograde, this question of how one is stabilizing or establishing themselves comes under review, and as a result of realizing that doing things by your own volition, decision making, and accord might be better, there will be ties that are needed to be cut. I said this a while ago on Twitter where Venus in Cancer while Mars was in Leo would be all about examining your relationships with people to see if they feel fulfilling. Cutting off all the dead weight is this transit’s vibe now. Saturn is not only our audience, but it is the very place we are in a social setting, and how we may need to make some changes, some snips, some swifts cut offs before we officially commit to solidifying ourselves in one place.

Saturn asks us to think VERY intently about where we want to make permanent changes and the foundation we need to lay. It’s Retrograde cycle talks about how we need to make changes, and sometimes break the bonds we chose. When Saturn goes Retrograde, it is an important marker in Saturn’s cycle, because it means that it’s gearing up and getting ready to oppose the Sun. The only planets that can oppose the Sun in the first place are the superior planets (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) and so there’s something in their story that talks about having to stand back and look objectively at what has been created by these planets, and if it is in alignment with what you want to bring into your conscious sphere. Saturn opposite the Sun is the peak in its Retrograde cycle, and it illuminates what in particular is not beneficial, what is unsustainable, and what will not last about whatever Saturn has been signifying in your life. The Sun will put a spotlight on what is not meant to stay and what foundation will crumble. Saturn Retrogrades are meant for foundation crumbling, and let it crumble. If it was not stable enough to begin with while it was put together, it will not be more stable in your life when you try to put the pieces back together.

Mars opposing Saturn is what is shaking this foundation, and especially with the square to Uranus, shit comes out of left field, unexpectedly, and it requires you to drastically change things. This Mars/Saturn opposition not only plays into the Saturn Retrograde Story, but it also plays into activating that Saturn/Uranus square that has been playing out since Saturn entered Aquarius. The previous two Saturn/Uranus squares were on February 17th, 2021 and June 14th, 2021, and the final one of 2021 will be December 24th, 2021. Breaking the mold has been my keyword for this transit, we must break and change anything that is rotting in our lives, and sometimes realizing the foundation of your house could collapse at any minute is not exciting news. However, the push this Saturn/Uranus square gives is to implement newer structure that is much more sturdy, stable, and can withstand the test of time.

Ultimately, bringing this back to this Mars/Saturn opposition, it kicks off another journey in what creating a stable foundation for yourself looks like, and with Mars in Leo, it is made through choosing yourself. Choosing yourself, like I’ve said before, is not always easy, but it is necessary during this time, with Venus in Leo, for your own enjoyment and fulfillment. With Jupiter being Retrograde, the idea of fulfillment definitely comes into play. Does what you’ve done with your life so far feel fulfilling and satisfying in the way you hope for? What’s missing? Ask yourself what is missing in your life, and if you’re trying to just fill the void, or if you’re living for you. The void will never be filled. The void is vast, just like the ocean.
